To support paediatricians to meet their Level 3 competencies as outlined by the Intercollegiate document, the RCPCH offers various courses focusing on key and emerging themes in safeguarding and child protection.
What’s the Safeguarding (Level 3) series?
To support paediatricians to meet their Level 3 competencies as outlined by the Intercollegiate document, the RCPCH offers various online courses and eLearning focusing on key and emerging themes in safeguarding and child protection.
These courses involve expert faculty (led by our faculty lead Dr Vicki Walker) and provide an opportunity for in-depth analysis and interactive discussion for issues related to the topic.
This Safeguarding (Level 3) series which contributes towards delegates meeting their Level 3 safeguarding competencies as outlined by the Intercollegiate document.
The courses available change as new issues arise in safeguarding and child protection but the courses planned for the 2025-26 academic year include:
- Safeguarding, neurodevelopmental disorders and neurodisability – Tuesday 2nd December
- Safeguarding in the digital world – Monday 9th March 2026
- Children, violence and safeguarding – Monday 8th June 2026

Dr Vicki Walker
RCPCH Assistant Officer for Child Protection
Dr Vicki Walker is a Consultant Paediatrician in Mansfield and the Designated Doctor for Looked After Children in Nottinghamshire. She was appointed to the RCPCH Child Protection Standing Committee in February 2019 working with the College to support paediatricians, progress training and improve health outcomes for Looked After Children, with an interest in education and migrant health.
She has worked as a Named Dr for safeguarding and is the clinical editor for the eLfH level three safeguarding children. She was appointed as the RCPCH Assistant Officer for Child Protection (Education) in April 2022.
Delegate feedback
Previously I would have asked a maximum of one question regarding social media/online activities in a HEADSS questionnaire. I would now think significantly more about what questions to ask and try and give young people space to discuss any issues they have.
